You slept through your alarm, you’re late, and you just don’t have time to put your face on before running out the door. It’s mornings like this that I dread and have had to battle through on far too many occasions.
You see, I’m the type of girl who neeeeeeds to apply concealer, no matter what. In fact, it’s possible I would scare children if I walked out the door without concealer on. It’s just not something that should happen.
However, with that being said I would love to find a more time efficient way of getting ready in the morning that won’t result in me looking a fright. Which is what got me thinking – if I want to look better without makeup on then surely there are other women out there who would love to learn how to look good without makeup.
So, I searched. I read. I researched. I chatted with girlfriends. And I discovered 6 easy and efficient ways to look good without makeup on, meaning I don’t have to feel ugly or that I should spend the day in sunglasses if I am running late.
Keep reading to discover how to look good without makeup – I promise, it’s a lot more simple than you think!
Do You Use Protection?
Okay that sounds more like a sexy-time question but seriously, do you use protection? By protection I am referring to sunscreen…I mean, that was obvious, wasn’t it?
Whether the forecast is calling for uninterrupted sunshine or consistent cloud cover, your skin is still susceptible to harmful UV rays that can result in unsightly sun spots and discolouration if you aren’t diligent in your SPF application.
So many women these days spend thousands of dollars on keeping their skin looking young, healthy, and one even tone but all of that money is wasted if you don’t regularly use sunscreen.
After all, unprotected sun exposure leads to premature wrinkles, discolouration, and sagging skin – all of which we use makeup to mask.
Instead, put down the foundation and pick up a solid tinted moisturizer with SPF. Not only will you be protecting your skin but you will add that touch of tint while also hydrating your skin. It’s a win-win!
A Cup of Hot C
Vitamin C that is. One of my new morning rituals is waking up and drinking a cup of hot water and fresh lemon before getting ready.
It’s soothing on the throat, the citrus scent wakes up your senses, and the lemon juice mixed with the hot water helps to flush and purify your body from the inside out, helping to eliminate toxins and reduce the chances of any future skin sensitivities.
A nice boost of Vitamin C in the morning can also cut down on your body’s amount of free-radicals, causing your skin to stay healthy and work towards looking its very best.
Get Toned
You may have eliminated this step from your skincare routine after high school, but using a toner all over your face after washing it can help to balance its pH levels, resulting in a more even-looking complexion.
A good solid alcohol-free toner will also help to prep your skin so it absorbs products more easily. This will give you a nice even skin tone and further remove the need to cake on the makeup in the morning.
Get Your Scrub On
One of the easiest ways to ensure your skin looks clean, radiant, and has a nice healthy glow to it is to exfoliate.
When we don’t use a gentle exfoliant on our face, the dead skin cells on the surface of our skin become opaque and therefore don’t reflect any light causing our skin to look dull.
To combat this, exfoliate your skin twice a week using either your favourite exfoliating product, or you can make your own by mixing equal parts Baking Soda and water.
Once you have your ingredients mixed together and have reached the consistency you desire, simply spread your scrub onto your face.
Gently massage it into your skin for about a minute before rinsing off with cool water and patting dry.
Not only is this DIY microdermabrasion treatment easy to make but it’s cheap as hell and works to slough away the dead cells that can dull your skin, get caught in your pores, and even lead to acne breakouts.
Hands Off
I’m not going to lie, this habit has been the hardest for me to break as I’m quite a toucher. Wait….that came out wrong.
I digress.
One sure-fire way to ensure your skin looks its very best is to keep your hands off of it!
Stop touching your face needlessly throughout the day. Stop picking at pimples, blemishes, or blotches. And stop tugging or pulling at your face.
Essentially, the skin on our face is the most delicate on our body and therefore is more susceptible to dermal tearing and scarring.
That means when you pick your zits, rub or tug at the skin around your eyes, or rest your face in your hands you are breaking skin, loosening the skin, and adding unnecessary oil to your skin causing it to degrade in quality over time.
Easy fix? Stop. Touching. Your. Face.
Simple enough, right?
Get Your Glow On
If there is one thing that can help us ladies feel gorgeous in the morning, sans makeup, it’s a healthy glow to our skin.
Of course, sometimes our skin just doesn’t cooperate so it’s up to us to take matters into our own hands. So how do we do this? With a simple DIY faux-glow of course!
There are a million…okay not a million…ways we can embrace our inner bronzed beach goddess without ever having to step foot out into those harmful UV rays or look like Snooki.
From tea to cocoa, iodine to foods that can naturally tan your skin, there are ways to amp up that healthy glow without having to subject your skin to tanning beds and wrinkle-causing UV rays. Hell, I even wrote a book on it!
So go ahead, embrace that inner DIY’in diva and get your tan on…naturally!
While it can be daunting to transition away from caking on the makeup each and every morning if you follow these minor suggestions on how to look good without makeup, you should start to see a noticeable difference in how your skin looks and how you feel about your skin sans makeup.
Not only is it liberating to not feel as though you need to wear makeup but it shaves a good 20 minutes off your morning routine. And you know what that means….more sleep!

My virtual assistant in Bangledesh!
Have you ever heard of a virtual assistant? I hadn't until about a year ago and I was immediately extremely curious! There are people overseas who will do things related to computers and social media for a very minimal amount. It is all things that I can do, my time is just more valuable. For example, I hired a guy to grow my Pinterest campaign. I posted a job, had 12 people apply and you sort through them by looking at their profile. The guy I went with is named Manik. He is married and has 1 child and lives in Bangledesh. His portfolio was very impressive and he had great English too. While I was sleeping, he would log into my Pinterest account and pin things and follow people like he was me! I only had to pay him $2.22 per hour! Unreal, huh? He works on several projects at once and I can peek in on his work at anytime and he has to take screen shots of his work. It is pretty cool! Thanks so his help, I now have around 5,500 people following me and I am folowing over 30,000! My hope is that all those I am following will follow me back! If you are interested in hiring a virtual assistant, it will make your life so much easier! It is totally worth the small investment! The company is called Odesk.com. You pay through paypal and you don't pay until the work is done, at the end of the week. It is totally secure through paypal and I would highly recommend it! Let me know also, if you would like my guys contact info! He is awesome!
Til next time, take care!
Love, Jess
P.S. This is a picture or me when I got my Younique Presenter kit in Nov. of 2012. We had 88 Presenters on this day. Today we have over 24,000. If that isn't momentum, I don't know what is.
It is awesome!
